Joe Satriani

10 millions albums sold, 14 Grammy Award nominations, selected by Mick Jagger himself to play beside him during his first solo world tour, and Deep Purple with whom he travelled across Europe and Japan, Joe Satriani is an exceptional guitarist.

Few musicians can pride themselves in having made a crowd of several thousand spectators sing, with only a guitar to accompany them (Crowd Chant on the album “Satchurated”)! Initially a music teacher, he counts among his ex students Metallica’s Kirk Hammet or Larry Lalonde from Primus… Who other than a true Guitar Hero could replace Jeff Beck

New Guest: Manu Katché

The French drummer has also joined the already impressive line-up of this concert to add the “Katché sound”,that beat recognized by thousands of savvy music lovers.

Refusing to be boxed into a single category, with a knack to borrow from all influences and adapt to all styles, Manu Katché has played both on stage and in the studio with the greatest French and international artists: Goldman, Souchon, Cabrel as well as Dire Straits, Simple Minds, The Bee Gees, Tears for Fears, Peter Gabriel… and many many more.

For this exceptional Sporting 40th anniversary edition, Monte-Carlo SBM Group and its artistic director, Jean-René Palacio, have created an exclusive event, bringing together on stage for the first time ever Marcus Miller, Joe Satriani, Manu Katché, Booker T. Jones, Selah Sue, Alex Han and Trombone Shorty…

A historic event

Marcus Miller is one of the main instigators of this event. Nominated «UNESCO artist for peace » and spokesperson for project « Slave Route », he is not only an exceptional musician but also a remarkable composer and producer. His legendary album « Tutu », composed and produced for Miles Davis in 1986 was world acclaimed. He then takes lead from his spiritual fathers: Miles as a springboard for the young Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin… and Quincy Jones for his production.

After a few years and a few concerts at the Opera Garnier de Monte-Carlo, the ties of friendship that developed between the American bassist and Monaco allowed the creation of such a prestigious line-up. The rules of the game were to leave it up to Marcus Miller and Jeff Beck, who has sadly been obliged to step down from the concert, to invite their choice of musicians for an exceptional event.

They chose first to invite Booker T. Jones, one of their idols: a pioneer of Stax Records, a label known for soul music that he helped create along with his Memphis group, the MG’s, in the early 1960’s. But Marcus, in the same tradition that allowed him to be revealed by Miles Davis, continues to draw out new talent.

He was overwhelmed by Selah Sue’s voice. A combination of soul, reggae and dubstep, the songs from her first album are evidence of her banter, casual sensuality and romance.

Another musical discovery: Alex Han, one of the most exciting saxophonists of his generation, and of whom he produced the first album.

The stage will finally welcome as guest Trombone Shorty, one of New Orleans locomotives. Rocking out with Lenny Kravitz and Green Day, he permeates the stage, taking his musicians and spectators down the Supafunkrock road.

This encounter between musical giants and young talent will go far beyond Jazz frontiers, to make this Sporting Summer Festival a historical event. Don’t miss out!
